BT's wholesale DSL products: alleged anti-competitive pricing

No. 28/03/2002

The Director General of Telecommunications has investigated whether BT's pricing of some of its wholesale DSL products infringes the Competition Act 1998.

The Director was concerned that the pricing of BT's IPStream and DataStream products might constitute predatory pricing. The Director was also concerned that an unfair cross subsidy might be in operation.

The Director has now completed his investigation. The Director has concluded that the pricing of IPStream and DataStream is not predatory. He has further concluded that no unfair cross subsidy is operating. The Director does not, therefore, consider that the pricing of BT's IPStream and DataStream products infringes the Act.
