Update
The Secretary of State has accepted the OFT's recommendation to extend the duration of the Public Transport ticketing Schemes Block Exemption in its current form for an additional period of five years until 29 February 2016.
An Order extending the Block Exemption on these terms (2011 No.277) will come into force on 28 February 2011. The order is available at www.legislation.gov.uk.
Summary of consultation
This consultation sought views on whether the OFT should make a recommendation to the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills (the Secretary of State) to extend the duration of the Public Transport Ticketing Schemes Block Exemption (the PTTS Block Exemption), which is due to expire in February 2011.
Between March and July 2010 we carried out a preliminary review of the PTTS Block Exemption. This review included meetings with a number of key representative organisations connected to the transport industry. The OFT also reviewed the materials from its earlier review of the PTTS Block Exemption carried out by the OFT between 2003 and 2005.
Based on this preliminary review, we proposed to recommend that the Secretary of State extend the PTTS Block Exemption for an additional period of five years until 29 February 2016. This proposal was subject to considering responses to the consultation and to any necessary further analysis.
