Clive Maxwell joined the Board of the OFT as an Executive Director in September 2010. Before then, he was Senior Director, Services Sector, at the OFT from October 2009, on secondment from HM Treasury. This included leading projects on bank charges and corporate insolvency.
Prior to his work at the OFT, Clive worked in a wide range of roles for HM Treasury from 1992-2009. As Director, Financial Stability, he led work responding to the financial crisis in 2007-2009, and worked on financial markets and regulation in other roles there from 2002. Clive has also worked on issues affecting other business sectors and consumers, such as tax policy affecting the haulage and shipping industries, regulation of insurance and agricultural policy. He participated in a secondment to the London Borough of Lewisham in 1999-2000 to develop his understanding of providing public services at a local level.
Clive has represented the UK in numerous international and EU fora, including the EU’s Financial Services Committee, of which he was Vice-Chairman from 2008-2009. He worked in Brussels on secondment to the European Commission in 1994-1995, dealing with economic and monetary issues.
Clive studied Geography at the University of Oxford.
