We can achieve our objectives only through partnership with others.
We provide strategic leadership to Local Authority Trading Standards Services (TSS). We act as the national champion of TSS and ensure they take a risk-based, proportionate and coordinated approach to the enforcement of consumer regulations. We also provide training and day-to-day casework guidance to TSS.
We collaborate with partners to educate and inform businesses and consumers. In particular, we coordinate the national consumer education strategy and lead the consumer education Alliance of public, private and voluntary-sector organisations.
We work with code sponsors (trade bodies) as part of the OFT's Consumer Codes Approval Scheme to raise industry standards through codes of practice, which provide benefits to consumers that go beyond those required by law.
To ensure effective enforcement of the competition regime in the UK, we have close working relationships with the Competition Commission, sector regulators, the European Commission and other national competition authorities worldwide.
We work closely with the Financial Services Authority to ensure we jointly provide the best possible service to consumers in financial markets.
We also work with the Cabinet Office and the Better Regulation Executive to ensure that negative effects on markets arising from government policies are minimised.
