Learning everyday consumer skills - a teachers' toolkit

Skilled to go uses real life consumer situations, such as choosing a mobile phone, to help learners develop consumer skills, knowledge and confidence alongside literacy and numeracy.

This FREE toolkit of resources includes games, quizzes, role plays and case studies, plus video and audio content.

Research

We regularly undertake research to ensure Skilled to go is a high quality resource that meets teachers' needs.

Since its launch in 2008, we have commissioned a range of research projects to explore Skilled to go's effectiveness, find out how teachers use the resources in practice, and evaluate the financial benefits of Skilled to go for consumers. You can read the full reports below.

The Central Office of Information conducted an evaluation of OFT's Skilled to go consumer education programme, together with OFT's Just tick it marketing campaign. Their report explores the return on investment of these initiatives.

Skilled to go research report (Nov 2010 and Mar 2011): How Skilled to go is used in practice 

The aim of this two-stage research was to better understand teachers' use of Skilled to go in practice in order to make future improvements and maximise overall usage.

Stage one: Quantitative research carried out by the OFT Statistics team through an online survey.

Researching the effectiveness of the Skilled to go further education toolkit

This report outlines the results of a research project which LLU + , London South Bank University undertook on behalf of the OFT from August 2007 to April 2008.

Its main aims were firstly, to test the appropriacy and effectiveness of two modules of the Skilled to go toolkit, and secondly, to suggest adaptations to the toolkit before it went live.
