Nina Woods - Supermarkets Coordinator
Name: Nina Woods
Job: Supermarkets Coordinator
Team: Markets and Projects, Goods group
Joined OFT: 2002
When I first joined, I was responsible for leading a team of consumer protection case officers. After this, I worked on projects that directly affect how we carry out our work to benefit consumers. These involved developing and implementing new consumer protection law, including influencing the formation of regulations and developing the framework for their use so that in practice they protect consumers while not overburdening businesses.
I now act as the OFT Supermarkets Coordinator. In 2006, following an extensive market study, the OFT referred the UK groceries market to the Competition Commission for further investigation. Working with colleagues across the OFT, I am developing the OFT's strategy for responding to the Competition Commission's findings and their potential impact on this high-profile market that affects all of us.
My roles have given me a balance of external liaison, analysis and problem solving, and strategic planning. The opportunity to work on both consumer protection and competition projects has kept me challenged. I've also benefited from working with people who are really committed to the work of the OFT. The right mix of work and the enthusiasm of my colleagues has made working at the OFT enjoyable and rewarding.
Alongside my specific responsibilities, I've had the opportunity to contribute to making the OFT a great place to work: I have served on the Merit Awards Committee and am an active member of the Diversity Advisory Group. I also take time to attend some of the really informative OFT seminars so I can keep up to date with work taking place across the OFT and developments in competition and consumer protection policy.
