Greater transparency in the OFT's work

The OFT recognises the importance of being transparent with those that we deal with, and increasing the public transparency of our work is a key theme in our Annual Plan 2008-09.

We have committed to build on our business improvements through providing better information:

• about the work we do
• what we are doing
• how long it is likely to take, and
• how we will engage with stakeholders.

We will meet this commitment through providing clearer guidance on how we operate, including, where possible, benchmark processes and timetables for the various types of projects that we undertake.

During August and September 2008 we are contacting a number of stakeholders to get feedback on experiences of dealing with the OFT across our portfolio and to gain a better understanding of how we can best communicate and engage with them in the future.  We are also carrying out an internal review of our processes.  We expect to be able to tell our stakeholders about any changes we plan to make before the end of 2008.
