Consumer credit jurisdiction industry levy
The OFT is responsible for collecting the industry levy which will fund the Financial Ombudsman Service’s extended role in considering complaints about consumer credit products and services.
We collect the levy at the same time as you apply to be licensed or you make an application to renew your licence. The levy is payable in addition to the licence fee which must accompany your licence application.
You do not have to pay the levy if you are:
- a debt counsellor or debt adjuster – provided you do not charge a fee or commission for any services
- a registered loan society, credit union or registered under the Friendly Societies Act, or
- subject to the compulsory jurisdiction of the ombudsman scheme.
Levy payable
Applying for a licence
- sole trader, partnership, company or other organisation - £150.00
Renewing a licence
- sole trader, partnership, company or other organisation - £150.00
Refunds
A refund (in full or in part) will be given:
- on any overpayment of the required levy
- if payment has been made because the OFT gave incorrect information,
- where the application is withdrawn or refused for any reason,
- where no levy is payable but payment has mistakenly been made.
How to pay
