The following highlights how scammers can get information about your business and use it to con you into purchasing unwanted or over-priced office supplies.
|
First Call Hi, my name is............ I'm calling from .......... We are sending out a free office supplies catalogue for the year. We would like to make sure that the person responsible for ordering supplies receives the catalogue. Also, we need to know what type of printers you are using, along with the model number, to ensure that you receive the right catalogue for your machine. The make and model number are located on the front of your machine. |
Once the scammers have these details they have enough information to scam you.
|
Second call Good morning/afternoon, can I speak to............. It's ......... once again from ................ As you know, we're the people who handle the supplies for your............. printers. How is the machine working these days? If you have any problems, please don't hesitate to call the service department. The reason I called is that we are having a sale. We have decided to reduce the cost of toner by 40%. Because they are going fast, I have set aside ..... boxes of the toner at the reduced price for you. Now, your building is still at......... Great. Thanks, and we'll see you in a couple of days. |
In the second call the scammer has assumed the sale. You are asked to confirm information but never asked directly if you what to make a purchase.
