Enquiries relating to Competition Act 1998

In certain industries, the sectoral regulators (see list below) have been given 'concurrent powers' to apply and enforce competition law. If your complaint concerns anti-competitive practices or behaviour in one of the sectors listed below, contact the sectoral regulator first as they will be best placed to address your concerns.

  • Communications - Ofcom
  • Gas and Electricity - Ofgem
  • Water and Sewerage - Ofwat
  • Railways - ORR
  • Air Traffic Services - CAA

Please note the OFT does not oversee other sectoral regulators and is not responsible for supervising their actions or reviewing their decisions. If you are unhappy with a decision made by one of the sectoral regulators you should contact the regulator concerned.

For consumer advice, information on specific consumer rights and to make a consumer complaint against a trader please contact Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06.

For all other enquiries including guidance on the work of OFT and to report anti-competitive or other behaviour by business, please contact the Enquiries and Reporting Centre on 0845 7 22 44 99. Please be aware that OFT cannot provide advice or assistance to individual consumers or traders. You may also wish to note that calls to this enquiries line are recorded for training and quality assurance purposes. These recordings are erased after six months from the date of the call. See more information about the OFT's data protection policy.

Calls to the OFT or Consumer Direct 0845 numbers are charged at no more than four pence per minute from a BT landline and may be free depending on your call plan. Call charges from other landline providers or mobile phones may vary. Please check the rate with your phone provider.
