Consumers' Association
The Consumers' Association is a subscriber-led organisation which researches consumer issues, publishes information and lobbies on behalf of consumers.

Department for Business, Innovation and Skills
The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform is responsible for trade, business, employees, consumers, science and energy.

Financial Services Authority
The FSA is an independent non-governmental body that regulates the financial services industry. It aims to promote efficient, orderly and fair markets, and to help retail consumers achieve a fair deal.

Information Commissioner
The ICO is the UK's independent public body set up to promote access to official information and protect personal information. The data protection area of the website provides guidance on the Data Protection Act 1998.

Local Authority Co-ordinators of Regulatory Services
LACORS provides advice and guidance to help support local authority regulatory and related services. It was set up in 1978 to coordinate the enforcement activities of trading standards. Since 1991, LACORS has also worked on food safety and is currently responsible for a range of other regulatory and related services.

Office of Communications
Ofcom is the independent regulator and competition authority for the UK communications industries, with responsibilities across television, radio, telecommunications and wireless communications services.

Office of Gas and Electricity Markets
Ofgem regulates the gas and electricity industries in the UK.

Office of of Public Sector Information
OPSI is the Government body responsible for information policy, setting standards, delivering access and encouraging re-use of public sector information.

Office of Rail Regulation
ORR is the integrated safety and economic regulator for the railway industry. This site includes information on Passenger Focus, the independent national rail consumer watchdog.

Office for the Regulation of Electricity and Gas (Northern Ireland)
Ofreg is an independent public body set up to monitor the electricity industry in Northern Ireland.

Office of Water Services
Ofwat is responsible for making sure that the water and sewerage companies in England and Wales give a good-quality, efficient service at a fair price.

The Postal Services Commission
Postcomm is an independant regulator for the postal market. It was created by the Postal Services Act 2000 to further the interests of users of postal services and to regulate Royal Mail.

Trading Standards Institute
Maintained by the Trading Standards Institute, this site is a 'one stop shop' for consumer protection in the UK. It provides news, information and advice for consumers and businesses.

Which? Consumer champions
The Consumers' Association operates the which.co.uk website and publishes a number of consumer magazines focused around making consumers as powerful as the companies they deal with.
