New Director of Competition policy coordination at the OFT

Vincent Smith, currently OFTEL's Director of Legal Services - Competition, has been appointed as the new Director of Policy Coordination in the Competition Enforcement Division of the Office of Fair Trading. He succeeds Edward Whitehorn who now heads competition enforcement for telecoms in Hong Kong.
Mr Smith will have a key role as deputy to the Director of Competition Enforcement, Margaret Bloom. He will be responsible for resources, quality control and best practice across the whole division. He will also lead relations with the European Commission on competition enforcement issues and advise on modernisation of EC competition law.
Mr Smith has been working at OFTEL since 2000, first as Senior Legal Adviser and then as Director of Legal Services - Competition. Previously having qualified as a solicitor, he has over 10 years' experience in private practice of EC and competition work in both London and Brussels.
