The care home sector is the subject of the latest informal super-complaint received by the OFT.
The Consumers' Association has asked the OFT to look at concerns about the sector which is worth around £9 billion a year. The OFT will now fast track this complaint and announce within 90 days what action, if any, it proposes to take and whether it will launch a formal study into the sector.
NOTES
1. The Enterprise Act allows designated consumer bodies to refer fast track complaints to the OFT. These complaints focus on areas where the complainant suspects there are market structures or practices that are working against the interests of consumers.
2. The Consumers' Association's application for designated status is currently being considered by the DTI. A decision is expected shortly. The OFT feels it is in the interests of consumers to treat the complaint as if it were a formal super-complaint.
