Following consultation, the OFT is today launching a new competition assessment and accompanying guidelines for policy makers across Government on how to assess the impact that their proposed policies and legislation will have on competition.

Policy makers are required to carry out a competition assessment as part of their Impact Assessment, previously known as Regulatory Impact Assessment, which are required before policies are implemented.
This new competition assessment will help policy makers design better regulations, with lasting benefits for businesses, government and consumers.
