The OFT has appointed Simon Williams as Senior Director of Cartels and Criminal Enforcement.
Prior to this appointment, Simon was the OFT's Director of Cartel Investigations for four and a half years, having previously worked for the Serious Fraud Office and HM Customs and Excise. Since joining the OFT, Simon has led on a number of high-profile cartel cases and has overseen a number of key developments in cartel enforcement such as the reform of the OFT's leniency policy under which companies can gain immunity for reporting cartel activity, and the introduction of an 'informant reward' programme which makes financial incentives available for information about cartels.
In this new role, Simon will continue to head up civil and criminal cartel enforcement but the job will also embrace the OFT's additional criminal consumer enforcement responsibilities to be introduced by the new Consumer Protection Regulations.
John Fingleton, OFT Chief Executive, said :
'Simon has been key to helping us demonstrate the OFT's commitment to rigorously tackling anti-competitive behaviour by cartels, and he has helped us to deliver a number of high impact outcomes over the last few years. I am extremely pleased to welcome him to this new position, which will allow him to continue and develop the already excellent work being delivered by the OFT's cartels team.'
NOTES
1. This position was subject to open competition having been advertised both internally and externally in December 2007.
