The OFT has faced many challenges in enforcing the Competition Act 1998. This article assesses what has been achieved with the Act and what further challenges lie ahead.
As before, the most important challenges are those concerned with securing effective enforcement of the Act. The third anniversary of its commencement was on 1 March 2003. How well have we met the challenges of recruiting expert staff, uncovering anticompetitive behaviour, building up quality cases, wise selection of priorities, and increasing business awareness?
