New Mergers Director at the OFT

Simon Pritchard has been appointed Director of Mergers at the OFT on promotion from his current position as a Deputy Director in the mergers branch.
The Director of Mergers plays a key role in decisions taken on UK mergers and in formulating UK views on cases falling under EC merger law.
At the OFT since 2003, Simon has been the deputy responsible for cases such as the London Stock Exchange bids and the Capital/GWR radio merger.
In the private sector, Simon represented clients on merger and antitrust matters before both U.S. antitrust agencies and the European Commission. He joined the OFT from the Washington office of the Wall Street law firm, Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton.
He holds law and political science degrees from the University of Adelaide, and a law degree from Heidelberg University. He is also a member of the New York Bar and was previously admitted as a solicitor in New South Wales.
He succeeds Simon Priddis who was recently promoted to Senior Director for Competition Casework (see press release 113/05).
