New OFT legal appointment

Harsha Shewaram has been appointed as a Director in the OFT's Consumer Regulation Enforcement legal division.

Harsha who qualified as a barrister, has substantial experience in consumer law. She is currently working for the European Commission as a national expert in the Internal Market and Services Directorate General, in the Financial Services & Consumer Policy area. In this role she has been working on EU retail financial service issues, in particular mortgage law and policy. Before that she was a legal advisor at the OFT.

Her role at the OFT will be to lead one of the three teams of consumer lawyers. She takes up the post in March 2006.
