Statement on Farepak meeting between Consumer Affairs Minister and OFT Chief Executive

The Minister for Consumer Affairs Ian McCartney met with the OFT Chief Executive John Fingleton yesterday to discuss the issues surrounding the collapse of the Farepak hamper firm. Although it is beyond the OFT's remit to assist those people affected, the minister has asked that OFT work with the DTI and FSA to look at the regulatory framework in which Farepak operated and consider options to address any issues raised. A report will be made to the minister at the earliest opportunity.
