OFT appoints new Director of Mergers
135/07 25 September 2007
The OFT has appointed Alastair Mordaunt as Director of Mergers.
The Director of Mergers is a key leadership post responsible for the OFT's delivery of UK merger cases, contributions to EC merger cases in Brussels, and management oversight of close to 40 Mergers Group staff.
Alastair is currently a senior associate in the Antitrust, Competition and Trade practice of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, based in London. Having represented the firm's clients on merger and non-merger issues in London, Brussels and Washington DC, Alastair has a wealth of experience to bring to his new role. His cases include the bids for the London Stock Exchange before the OFT and Competition Commission, and the recent Monsanto/Delta & Pine Land merger before the U.S. Department of Justice.
At the OFT, Alastair will lead on casework delivery and management of the Mergers Group and work in tandem with the new Senior Director of Mergers on strategic, policy and merger litigation issues. He will take up his new post in October 2007.
Simon Pritchard, Senior Director of Mergers at the OFT, said:
'I am very pleased to welcome Alastair as Director of Mergers. His obvious talents and leadership will be an excellent fit for us - not only for our vision of world-class merger control but for fostering the workplace culture that will deliver it.'
