OFT Scotland now officially open for business
47/07 16 March 2007
The Office of Fair Trading has opened its office in Scotland to strengthen further OFT links with Scottish businesses, consumers, other enforcement agencies and policy makers.
The office in Walker Street in the centre of Edinburgh, provides a permanent base for the OFT Representative in Scotland Kyla Brand.
The OFT has responsibilities throughout the UK and devolution has given the Scottish Parliament powers to change the law in areas that affect the operation of markets. The new office in Scotland will look to develop and diversify links with the Scottish Executive and other key partners, including Scottish media, who can promote fair markets and consumer welfare. OFT in Scotland will also be ensuring that OFT in London is fully informed on issues in relation to Scotland.
Kyla Brand, OFT Representative in Scotland said:
'The OFT office in Scotland opened by the Chairman Philip Collins, demonstrates the commitment of OFT to making markets work well for consumers and fair trading businesses in Scotland. We will provide a more local contact point for businesses and stakeholders and enable the OFT to offer them better support across Scotland on both Scottish and UK wide matters.'
