Councillors' briefing pack

A key strand of the work of the joint action programme, coordinated by the OFT in partnership with trading standards professionals, LACORS and the TSI, is to raise the profile, among Councillors, of the contribution made by TSS to the social and economic wellbeing of their communities.

The first phase of this work involves distribution of a letter and flyer to Councillors. Both documents can be downloaded below and form part of a toolkit. The documents can be adapted to reflect local differences and delivery outcomes in individual local authorities.

The flyer and letter are designed to be delivered by individual heads of service after they have been personalised by them. In addition, the flyers will touch on TSS contribution to five generic key agendas:

• health and nutrition
• crime and disorder
• environment
• economic development
• consumer education.

The second stage of the project is a detailed information booklet. This sets out how TSS contribute to the agendas outlined above. There are three booklets, one for authorities in England, another for Scotland and a further one is being developed for Wales.

The third stage is a series of events where Councillors will be invited to interact with their TSS colleagues, discuss key local and national issues and to find out more about the individual aspects of their local service.
